Building Professional Mentoring Programs

Training of Teacher Mentors

  •  Work with administrators and teacher mentors to maximize their

understanding of the components of an effective mentoring

    program.

  •  Collaboratively design a district or individual induction program for

recently hired professionals that considers everyone’s role in the

district, previous work experience and professional growth

    expectations.

  •  Focus on developing understandings of district culture, mission and

goals while providing specific strategies to new staff to best ensure

    their success.

  •  Develop strategies for administrators and teacher mentors designed

to support them in their role as teacher mentors.

  •  Incorporate an evaluative process that is non-judgmental and

supports the collegial mission of the mentoring program.

Training of New Teachers

  •  Work with district administrators and teachers to design a comprehensive New Teacher Induction Program.

  • Ensure that teachers new to the district have an understanding of the culture, mission and goals of the district and understand expectations of the professional staff.

  • Create a multi-day opportunity for new staff that includes a review of district curricula, special education and support programs for students, technological programs that support teachers and students, SEL expectations, etc.

  • Design opportunities for new staff to review and understand contractual obligations, personal financial literacy and school district policies and regulations.

  • Create opportunities for ongoing training throughout the school year that provide continued support and serve to unify the cohort of new teachers learning together.
